About Volta

Volta is an independent magazine about the culture that makes noise: music, film, style, art, food and the future. We started in 2019 with four writers, a shared spreadsheet and a belief that culture writing should be as bold as the culture it covers.

What we do

We publish long, reported stories every week, plus a Friday newsletter that rounds up the best things we saw, heard and ate. We do not chase trends for clicks. We go to the rooms, the stalls and the studios, and we stay long enough to understand them.

How we are funded

Volta is paid for by its readers. There are no display ads and no sponsored posts. Members get every story, the full archive and a say in what we cover next.
